stories told and songs sung

Life is full of stories and songs. By sharing them, maybe we see a little more clearly how we are all connected.

Name:
Location: Deep South

I grew up in Texas and then went off to college in Tennessee. There I met my future wife in a great story you'll have to hear someday. Med school was back in Texas. We got married during my 2nd year. After med school, it was on to Neurology residency in the Deep South. Now that I'm a full fledged neurologist, I'm just trying to balance it all with a new baby on the way...

10 Simple Pleasures

I was tagged by Phil, so here goes. I would have posted sooner, but there are so many things I love, I had a hard time paring it down to the top ten. Plus, Phil stole lots of mine with the Blue Bell ice cream, Starburst jellybeans and whatnot. Anyway, here are a few of my favorite things:

10. Minute Maid Cherry Limeade
9. Reading the Sunday paper
8. Pot Belly “Wreck” sandwich
7. The feeling of satisfaction after completing a home improvement project
6. Any well-acted ensemble television drama (of late, it has been the new shows Brothers & Sisters, Six Degrees, Studio 60, and Heroes)
5. Janelle’s amazing chocolate cake
4. Discovering a new, fantastic hole-in-the-wall restaurant
3. Finding a great bargain while shopping
2. Taking a nap on a rainy day
1. The soft sweetness of Janelle’s cheeks – truly my favorite thing in the whole world

No specific tagging for me, but please feel free to generate your own list and post it. Maybe my next list will be my top ten neuroses/obsessive compulsions. That list and this one will tell you almost everything there is to know about me...

Savannah

So Janelle and I just returned from a vacation to Savannah, GA. I had never been before, but now I am its biggest fan. It is the oldest city in the south not burned by Sherman, so the character of the old historic buildings is remarkable. Oh, and the food! Maybe my favorite thing in the whole world is eating, and we had such amazing food while we were there. The most famous restaurant in town is The Lady & Sons, owned by Paula Deen (of Food Network fame) and her sons. The picture shows the line just to put in your reservation, but it was well worth it. It was simple enough food, like mac and cheese, fried chicken, green beans, biscuits, but all of those were the best we had ever had, and that's saying a lot considering how excellent at cooking Janelle and her whole family are. And every other restaurant we tried was amazing as well. What a trip- if you've never been, I highly recommend it. There is no city like it.
